Well done to our four S6 Erin, Shannon, Christie and Arran who completed their qualifying expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Award! They had a fantastic walk under the sunshine. They walked 66.3 km over four days.Lots of blisters but more good memories.
The last Friday of term has been a very eventful one. It was a Dress down day for Down's syndrome and a mock referendum for the Independance of Scotland.
After a very interesting involving MSP and some pupils, all pupils and staff were invited to express their opinions. The results were:
64% of voters wish Scotland to remain united with the UK.
The best of luck to all the staff who leave us today.
Sue Watson, Youth Worker with whom the Duke of Edinburgh Award would not be the same.
Mike Fairman who starts a new adventure has Coordinator of the Leven center, all the best.
And finally to Mr John McGilp who will leave the school to rejoin Wishaw. the three of them received presentations by staff and pupils but also lasting applause which showed the esteem and the appreciation staff and pupils have for them.
A big well done to the Kinlochleven and Ardnamurchan girls who represented Lochaber in a fixture against Oban Girls on the 2nd of April. Their first full 15's a side ever!
The Oban girls have been training for three years together and logically won the fixture but the local girls showed team spirit and sportsmanship and went on to score and convert a magnificent 80 yards try where nearly everyone touched the ball.
The Oban staff and players were very impressed by our girls and us coaches are very proud to see them gelling as a team. Well done girls!
Kinlochleven Girls Rugby team did some damage in the Inverness rugby festival. They played on a sunny Friday afternoon and won their two games against Culloden (9 tries to none) and A mixed team of Caithness and Shetland girls. They joined forces in a game with different girls and ended up drawing against Orkney in a very physical game.
The organizers and the coaches saluted the keenness and the skills of the girls. "They are quite scary actually" said a prop forward from Inverness Highland Rugby Club.
Shinty Girls: On March 8th girls from S2-S6 took part in the Donella Crawford 6aside tournament in Ardnamurchan. This was the first time they had played together however the girls played extremely well as a team and enjoyed the day…even with all the injuries!
Shinty Mixed: On April 1st a mixed team of under 14s travelled to Glen Urquhart to play in the Robertson Cup 6aside tournament. Even though it was a mixed tournament our league turned out to be all boy teams, the group worked very well as a team that had never played together- encouraging each other and cooperating to gain success. The day ending with an unexpected trip to the bowling which was enjoyed by all.
I would like to congratulate Gordon Milne on being appointed to the post of Acting Head Teacher starting on 22nd April until the substantive post is advertised and appointed. Following interview Jill Mills has been appointed as Acting Depute during this same spell and finally following another interview Shona Ritchie has been appointed to back-fill Jill’s PT Pupil Support post for the same length of time.
